The Upper Savinja Valley, with its beautiful nature, hills, valleys, and the Savinja River offers countless opportunities for spending free time and outdoor holidays. It is one of the most popular destinations for adventurers, hikers, cyclists, and all nature lovers.
One of the major dilemmas on any holiday comes with bad weather - what can we do on a rainy day? Of course, we can spend it with a good book or board games, for anyone who wants to explore interesting corners of the valley, without an umbrella or cape, we have some great suggestions.

One of the most interesting points (also suitable for a family) is a visit to the Slovenian Coal Mining Museum in Velenje. Accompanied by a guide, you will descend 160 meters into the depth of the shaft. Before that you will put on mining clothes and a helmet, you will also take a mining lunch with you. In an hour and a half, you will then see in the underground tunnels how the work of the miners used to be and how it works today. At the end of the visit, you will ride with an underground train to complete an exciting visit to the museum. Please note that a prior appointment is required, which you can do yourself or contact our receptionists who know the procedure well.

If you like underground adventures, you can continue your trip by visiting the Pekel cave near Šempeter, where you will be thrilled by the interesting stalactites and stalagmites. The more than a kilometer-long path through the cave is nicely maintained and quite easy, so you can visit it with children. ong clothes and sports shoes are recommended, since the constant temperature in the cave is around 10 degrees Celsius.
If you are interested in the cultural heritage of the Upper Savinja Valley, we recommend a visit to Vrbovec Castle, which houses the Museum of Forestry and Woodworking, which shows the forestry and woodworking traditions of the valley. In the museum, you will surely forget about the modern way of life, at least for a moment. You will test yourself in the knowledge of some Slovenian indigenous tree species, take part in a quiz, where you can compose a tree with the correct answers, or play with solving wooden mind games. In the castleitself, there is also the Grad restaurant at the confluence, where you can end your visit with an excellent coffee or lunch, and prepare a plan for further exploration of attractions.

When you are tired of exploring, it is time to pamper and relax in the nearby Terme Topolšica. The pool complex and modern wellness center can also be used for a daily visit, and you can relax and warm up in the various saunas and pools. As they have a wide range of massages, beauty treatments, and spa services, we recommend that you browse through the leaflets at the reception and book your appointment in advance, thus avoiding waiting and busy appointments.

But if you ask our boys and girls at Funpark Menina what to do on rainy days, their answer will be clear: Once you’re in the water, you can’t be even wetter!

In the rain, you will experience an excellent kayak sit-on-top tour, rafting, or any of the other activities, because during heavy rains the water level in the Savinja River is higher, and the fun on the water is even better. All water activities can be booked directly in the "raft garage" in the camp or via the online form on the website. In bad weather, Funpark Menina also offers a special discount on all activities.

Rainy greetings!
