Nature is our starting point and our responsibility. Camp Menina is located in the unspoilt Upper Savinja Valley, where living in harmony with the natural environment is not a choice, but a necessity.

For this reason, we understand sustainability as a long-term commitment that we put into practice through concrete actions, projects and everyday routines. An important confirmation of this approach is the Green Key certificate, which verifies that we operate in accordance with international environmental standards for responsible tourism.

Green Key as a Journey, Not Just a Label

Green Key is not merely a badge, but a process of continuous improvement. It encompasses careful management of energy and water, waste reduction, the use of environmentally friendly materials, and the active involvement of both employees and guests in sustainable thinking. At Camp Menina, we view the certificate as a framework within which we constantly upgrade our operations and seek better solutions for the environment and the local community.

Sustainable Projects: Cross-Re-Tour and Meninček

Our sustainability vision is also reflected in our participation in projects such as Cross-Re-Tour, which promotes the development of sustainable tourism, responsible use of natural resources, and the exchange of best practices among tourism providers. The project enables us to share knowledge, test new approaches and strengthen the destination’s green orientation in the long term.

An important part of our story is the Meninček project, designed for children and families. Through play, movement and direct contact with nature, it introduces children to the importance of a respectful relationship with the environment. In the future, we are also developing an energy and sensory park, while children’s activities are deliberately focused on outdoor play and creating with natural materials found in the camp. In this way, we encourage imagination, curiosity and a sense of connection with nature.

Local Cooperation

We work closely with local producers and businesses, reducing transport distances and carbon emissions while supporting the local economy. During the summer months, guests can purchase local products at the camp market, where the flavours and stories of the Upper Savinja Valley come together.

Digitalisation as a Green Practice

The transition to digital solutions is an important part of reducing Camp Menina’s environmental footprint. Key information about the camp, house rules and sustainability practices is available to guests via QR codes and, to a limited extent, in durable printed materials. As the main alternative to traditional notices, we use the Camping Comfort app, which guests are actively informed about upon arrival. The app brings together all essential information for staying at the camp and exploring the surroundings, from notifications and events to excursion ideas and guidelines for responsible behaviour. This ensures that guests always have all information at hand without additional paper consumption. Digital tools are also used by employees in their daily work, consciously reducing document printing and paper waste.

Environmental Measures in Cleaning, Mobility and Maintenance

In the construction and maintenance of the camp, we follow the principles of sustainable building. We use natural and renewable materials such as wood and stone and seek solutions with the lowest possible environmental impact. Our eco wooden cabins are partly built from over one hundred-year-old local wood, and furniture is often created from reused materials.

We place great emphasis on careful and environmentally friendly accommodation maintenance. We use certified, eco-friendly Hagleitner cleaning products that are safe for both users and the natural environment. When washing bed linen and towels, we use eco wash programmes and biodegradable detergents. Linen and towel changes are carried out only when necessary or at the guest’s explicit request, significantly reducing water, energy and detergent consumption. Waste generated during cleaning is consistently separated, and plastic bags are used rationally and reused wherever possible. Procedures are regularly reviewed and improved to ensure minimal environmental impact while maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and comfort.

Encouraging environmentally friendly mobility is also an important part of our sustainability approach. Camp Menina offers two charging stations for electric vehicles, enabling safe and controlled charging. For safety reasons, to protect the electrical grid and ensure responsible energy use, charging electric vehicles at pitches is not permitted. Guests are therefore kindly asked to use only the designated charging stations.

Nature-Friendly Living as a Shared Experience

Staying at Camp Menina means slowing down, connecting with nature and recognising that we are part of a sensitive ecosystem. We invite our guests to use resources responsibly, respect the natural environment and contribute to the bigger picture through small, conscious actions.

For us, Green Key, sustainable projects and everyday green practices are not a goal, but a journey—a journey we take together with our employees, partners and guests. We are delighted that you are part of this story and that you are helping us co-create a nature-friendly future for Camp Menina.
